When strip tension defines process performance
In strip processing, stable and controlled strip tension is a key factor influencing product quality, process reliability and line availability. Fluctuating tension conditions can quickly lead to material damage, surface defects, increased scrap rates or unplanned downtime – with direct effects on productivity, cost efficiency and delivery reliability.
Bridle roll units – also referred to as S-blocks or strip tension control units – are specifically designed to reliably address these challenges. They perform a central function in controlled strip guidance and ensure precise strip tension control across the entire processing sequence.

Our bridle roll units are used in a broad variety of coil handling and strip processing lines, including strip processing lines, cut-to-length and slitting lines, edge trimming lines, rolling mills as well as strip edge conditioning lines, inspection and recoiling lines.
They are suitable for processing a wide range of metal strips, including carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium strips – from narrow precision strips to wide or thicker materials. Thanks to their flexible design, bridle roll units can be optimally adapted to different strip dimensions, material grades and process requirements.

In day-to-day operation, line operators are often faced with similar challenges:
- unstable strip tension with changing strip widths and thicknesses, particularly where this results in strongly varying strip cross-sections
- material deformation or surface damage caused by tensile forces that are too high or vary significantly
- process instabilities when handling sensitive or high-strength strip materials
- increased operator effort during strip threading and unthreading
- limited flexibility during product or material changes
Without a reliable strip tension control unit, these issues have a direct impact on productivity, quality and operating costs.

Our bridle roll units are designed to control strip tension and sustainably reduce process risks. They ensure that the strip is guided evenly and in a controlled manner at all times, regardless of process step, strip material or dimensions. This makes a decisive contribution to stable and consistent production conditions.
Material-adapted strip guidance significantly reduces the risk of permanent deformation, surface defects or strip damage. At the same time, our bridle roll units are designed with a strong focus on safe and practical strip threading and unthreading. Especially with thicker or stiffer strip materials, handling can be challenging due to opposing wrap directions of the strip within the roll arrangement.
Strip tension on both the entry and exit side can be precisely adjusted via torque-controlled or speed-controlled drive concepts for the individual rolls. If required, defined offset parameters can be made available to the operator within the control system, allowing individual and process-safe fine adjustment of each roll.
By means of integrated guide plates and/or mechanical threading aids, the strip is supported and guided in a controlled manner, thus ensuring safe strip handling for the operator. This simplifies threading procedures, improves workplace safety and reduces downtime – a clear advantage in daily line operation.
As an integrated tension control unit, our bridle roll units can be flexibly integrated into new line concepts or retrofitted into existing lines, providing increased process reliability and long-term investment security.
By choosing our bridle roll units, you invest in a solution that reduces problems, stabilises processes and sustainably improves the economic efficiency of your production.
