When Existing Data Is No Longer Reliable

Strip lines are continuously expanded, modified and modernized throughout their service life. As a result, existing drawings and documentation often no longer reflect the actual as-built condition – or may no longer be available at all.

When spare parts are required, modernization projects are planned or future investments need to be assessed, missing or outdated data can quickly become a challenge Which installation constraints need to be considered? Which components can be reused? And what modernization potential does the existing line still offer?

This is where 3D scanning provides a reliable foundation.

We capture existing components, assemblies and line sections directly on site, creating the basis for engineering, feasibility studies, manufacturing and modernization projects.

A Reliable Basis for Evaluating Modernization Potential

A 3D scan provides an accurate digital representation of the existing situation. The objective is not to generate as much data as possible, but to provide the information required for the intended application.

This data foundation is particularly valuable for feasibility studies, modernization projects and retrofits. Available space, existing geometries, potential collisions and installation requirements can be assessed at an early stage, before detailed engineering work begins or significant investments are made.

Typical applications include:

  • Feasibility studies for existing strip lines
  • Modernization and retrofit projects
  • Spare parts without available drawings
  • Scanning of complete machines, assemblies and line sections
  • As-built versus as-designed comparisons
  • Collision checks and installation space analyses
  • Documentation of existing strip lines

Depending on the project requirements, we capture individual components such as bearing housings, shafts, rolls and welded assemblies, as well as complete machines, foundations, safety fence areas, media supply systems, access platforms and surrounding equipment.

More Than Just Scanning

Scanning alone does not create value. The benefits of 3D scanning are realized when the captured data supports informed decisions and practical solutions.

Before any data is collected, we work closely with our customers to define the objectives of the 3D scanning project. Which areas need to be evaluated? What information is required? And which decisions will be made based on the resulting data?

Only then can the appropriate data be captured and prepared for its intended application.

The processed data not only provides a reliable foundation for engineering and manufacturing, but often also serves as the basis for feasibility studies. Available space, installation conditions and technical requirements can be assessed at an early stage, reducing uncertainty before detailed engineering work begins.

Particularly in modernization and retrofit projects, this creates a solid basis for evaluating which measures are technically feasible and economically viable.

From Scan to Solution

At hpl, a project does not end with the scan.

The collected data forms the basis for subsequent engineering, manufacturing and modernization activities. Our teams work closely together and combine extensive experience in mechanical and plant engineering with in-depth expertise in retrofit and modernization projects for strip processing lines, rolling mills and other industrial facilities.

This ensures that the scan results are not treated as isolated data sets but become part of a consistent project workflow with a clear path to implementation.

If required, we support our customers from the initial site survey and feasibility study through to engineering, spare part manufacturing and the modernization of complete line sections.

Your Benefits

Reliable data even when drawings and documentation are unavailable
Greater planning certainty for modifications and modernization projects
Faster availability of spare parts
Reduced effort for site surveys and data collection
Early identification of potential collisions and installation constraints
Continuous support from data acquisition through to implementation

The result is a reliable data foundation for future engineering, modernization and retrofit projects.
